Apple Arcade price not available until fall 2019, games previewed at keynote
Rumors of Apple’s gaming subscription service were confirmed Monday when it announced Apple Arcade, a platform that will provide numerous premium ad-free games to Apple’s catalog for a single monthly fee.
Apple noted that both free and paid games have had issues as mobile gaming becomes increasingly more popular. Many free games are inundated with intrusive ads, don’t get as much update support as paid games, and may still require in-app purchases to propel gameplay forward. Meanwhile, it can get pricey to constantly have to purchase the latest gaming trend, as well as their updated skins, characters, and other add-ons.
Apple Arcade aims to address sets backs from all sides of the mobile gaming market by offering over 100 new games on its service, from developers, including Annapurna Interactive, Cartoon Network, Konami, Lego, Sega, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Ken Won, and Will Wright. Games will be ad-free with all content, add-ons, and updates readily available. Users won’t be required to make additional purchases outside of the monthly fee. The service will be available across Apple platforms, including iOS, MacOS, and tvOS, with the ability to pick up where you left off on other devices, to play offline, and to share with up to six family members.
So far, Apple has only previewed the service, detailing it will be available this fall in over 150 countries and regions. Once available, users will be able to sign up through the Games tab in the Apple App store. Apple has not shared pricing details for the service.
