Google and Lenovo debut AI-driven Chromebook Plus 14 with record battery life
The new AI-driven Chromebook Plus 14 from Google & Lenovo features a vibrant 2K OLED screen, up to 17-hour battery, and exclusive Gemini AI tools.
Google and Lenovo have partnered to announce the Chromebook Plus 14, the latest ChromeOS netbook designed amid the quickly developing AI era. The Chromebook is not only powerful, but sleekly designed, to appeal to different user types, from artists, to enterprise, education, and gamers.
It is powered by the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra chip, the first Chromebook to host this AI chip that supports 50 Tops MPU, the most powerful component for a device of its class.
The Chromebook Plus 14 features a 14-inch 2K OLED display with a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, 16:10 aspect ratio, and 400 nits brightness, and can be configured with a touchscreen. In terms of hardware, it comes in 12GB and 16GB RAM options, and up to 256GB of internal storage, and includes a 60 watt-hours battery with rapid charge and a 65-watt adapter. Google and Lenovo claim that the Chromebook supports up to 17-hours battery life, the longest battery life ever on the Chromebook Plus device.
Design-wise, the Chromebook is a solid balance of light and portable. Its dimensions are 12.38 x 8.63 x 0.62-inches, and it weighs 2.58 pounds. The brands describe its 3D pattern on the bottom cover, as a functional grip specifically designed to make the device easier to hold and carry. Its color options include Seashell and Lunar Grey.
The camera system on the Chromebook Plus 14 includes a 5-megapixel webcam with a privacy shutter. Ports include two USB-C, one USB-A, and one Audio Combo Jack. Audio support includes quad speakers with Dolby Atmos sound. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. The device runs ChromeOS.
Users can customize the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 with a fingerprint reader, for secure logins. The device also supports two external 4K monitors simultaneously.
Having noted the increase in engagement since placing the Gemini app in the shelf of previous AI-enabled Chromebook devices, Google has done the same with the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, having its AI app being a center focus on the netbook’s home screen. Additionally, with the power of the MediaTek processor, Google has many features powered on a local on-device Gemini AI model, meaning the processes are faster and more efficient.
Google and Lenovo showcased two features exclusive to the Chromebook Plus 14, one feature called smart grouping, which will organize your open tasks, tabs, windows, and apps across your system by theme. The other feature is AI image editing in the Gallery app, which allows you to execute AI edits, such as removing backgrounds within your photo library.
The brands also discussed a number of features that will be included on the Chromebook Plus 14 that will also be available across the Chromebook Plus family, including a feature called Select to search with Lens, Text capture, Create images with Quick Insert key, “Simplify” with Help me read, NotebookLM with the Google AI Pro plan, and more desktop optimized apps.
The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 will be available in late June selling for $649 and $749 in its respective SKUs at Best Buy or Lenovo.com.
