New Meta Glasses mix glam with AI
Meta has launched its first version of Meta Glasses powered by AI, while rolling out several fashion options.
The next generation of Meta Glasses is now available, with three new styles in collaboration with the eyewear brand EssilorLuxottica and brand ambassador Kylie Jenner.
The latest versions are much lower in price than some prior models of Meta Glasses. With a starting price of just $299, they will likely be a lot more accessible to broader audiences. Original models were ushered in at around $799, while subsequent generations came to the market in the $500 range and some a little lower. The collaboration with Kylie Jenner suggests Meta is looking to appeal to younger and fashion-conscious consumers, who may have been hesitant to opt into such hardware, compared to early adopter consumers with money to spend. Meta Glasses have also been popular among accessibility consumers, including blind and low vision users.
The new Glasses styles include the Meta Adventurer, frames with a rectangular shape that come in standard and large options, the Meta Fury, described as having a bold look, and the Meta Glasses by Kylie, frames with a slim oval shape, designed alongside Jenner and inspired by her personal style. Color options for the frames include Classic Black, Classic Tortoise, Racing Green, Linen, Merlot, Mahogany, and Sandstone. The EssilorLuxottica lens also comes in several different options, including sun, Transitions, polarized, and clear, allowing for a unique range of customization, with 26 styles available at launch.
The Meta Glasses include three-way adjustable nose pads for comfort while wearing, open-ear speakers for high-level audio, and an advanced multi-mic array that focuses on wind noise reduction. Users can capture and share photos and videos hands-free, and can access privacy controls for themselves and others around them in the settings. The Meta Glasses provide over 8 hours of battery life, and its portable charging case supports up to 40 hours of additional battery life.
The new Meta Glasses introduce onboard Meta AI, featuring Muse Spark, the first AI model developed by Meta Superintelligence Labs for the brand’s wearable products. The model can complete most common AI assistant tasks hands-free, but the Glasses also include a dedicated action button that lets you activate Meta AI or set it to launch your preferred feature. The AI supports 14 live translations of new languages, including Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), Hindi, and Korean. Meta AI will also be available on prior model Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses in the US and Canada.
Meta showcased the new Glasses at the recent Cannes Lions Festival, and the AI wearables are also on display for testing at the Meta Lab in New York City.
Meta Glasses are now available at Meta.com, Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, Sunglasses Hut, and other select retailers.
