Samsung's passport shaped Galaxy Z Fold 8 leads the pack of its 2026 lineup
The 2026 foldable series include three devices, including a new form factor branded toward heavy content consumers.
Samsung’s latest foldable series is now official, having been announced in the U.K. on Wednesday. The hardware lineup includes the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8, showcasing three distinct foldable styles for consumers to choose from.
The new devices fall in line fairly well with pre-launch rumors, as many expected Samsung to announce a new design under the Galaxy Z Fold 8 branding, which it did. The new device features what many are calling a passport design with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It is shorter and wider than Samsung’s more traditional foldable design. The manufacturer has rebranded its usual style to the moniker Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, marketing it as a more luxury device, with higher hardware specifications and a much higher price.
Samsung noted the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could be suitable for more creative usage, such as capturing images, reading books on an e-reader, browsing, streaming video content, or gaming. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra might remain a productivity-focused device. Its split-screen capability can allow users to run multiple apps at once, and its professional-level triple camera is ideal for content creators. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 remains Samsung’s quick and portable option for creation and discovery. The device received updates to its FlexWindow, which organizes apps and important information on the cover display. Users can now access features, including Samsung’s Now Brief and Gemini Intelligence AI through the FlexWindow.
With the display being the most important aspect of its foldables, Samsung continues to work on making its inner display more durable and crease-free with the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The brand has introduced a new Flex Titanium technology, which builds the inner structures of the display with a titanium-alloy film and an enhanced titanium plate that allows it to maintain its original form without a crease over time. The device also has a magnetic grip that makes opening at the edges easier. Additionally, the display is also the brightest on a Samsung foldable to date, at 3,000 nits. The inner display is a 7.6-inch QXGA+ screen with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, while the cover display is a 5.5-inch WUXGA+ screen with a 10:16 aspect ratio.

The newly announced foldables are currently available for preorder with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 starting at $1,899, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starting at $2,099, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 starting at $1,199. Samsung and its retail partners will be offering discounts and trade-in deals during the pre-order period. The devices will start selling for their retail release on August 7.
