Samsung’s late July Galaxy Unpacked event hints at foldables
The brand is expected to showcase a revamped foldable to rival Apple's upcoming new form factor.
Samsung has confirmed that it will announce its next series of devices at a Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22. The brand has selected several unique locations to host its summer launch events, including Shanghai, Paris, and New York City. This year’s Unpacked event will take place in London, U.K., at 2 p.m. BST. (9 a.m. EDT, 3 p.m. CEST). The event will also be live-streamed on Samsung's website and YouTube channel for those who would like to watch remotely.
With the announcement, Samsung shared a teaser video titled “A new shape unfolds,” featuring an entry ticket printing and being ripped that features its notable Galaxy Unpacked logo. The teaser could hint at the launch event being foldable-focused, which could support many of the leaks and rumors that have surrounded Samsung products recently. Many believe Samsung will reconfigure its foldable lineup, introducing a Galaxy Z Fold 8 model that is shorter and wider than prior models, with a more compact aspect ratio.
This design is believed to be more similar to the design of the upcoming iPhone foldable than the designs Samsung has produced in the past. Samsung is expected to promote its own tall and thin design as a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra model. Rumors also suggest there may still be a Galaxy Z Flip 8 in the lineup.
In addition to the foldable series, rumors also suggest Samsung has plans to announce several wearables, including Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 models, Galaxy XR Glasses, and potentially also a Galaxy Ring 2.
Regardless of what is announced, the brand has already set up email reservations for its upcoming products. Deals include a $30 Samsung Credit towards the device when preordering, and up to a $1,230 discount when trading in an eligible device.
While Samsung announces its own launch event, Google has also recently confirmed it will unveil its latest Pixel series on August 12. The event is expected to feature several slate smartphone models, a foldable, and a number of wearables.
